Kano's back!

Whoa. I've just been sent the video for Kano's new single. Let me warn you: it's TOTALLY different to his stuff on 679. I think he's going for a "Sensual Seduction"-type vibe. So weird. All those years in the industry have really aged him (I didn't even recognise him!) and disfigured his musical direction.

Sunday

Hold tight Lady Maddie

Someone was asking me the other day why grime MCs haven't acknowledged knife crime in their lyrics more. I have no idea, but there is one big news story they have noticed. Twice this week I have heard lyrics about Madeleine McCann.

"Now it's back to grime cos they been missing me like Madeleine" - Kano

"Start killing him / Your body will get lost like Madeleine" - Dizzle Kid

Saturday

I LIKE DRINKING TEA

I was sent the above by a reader yesterday. I'm gonna be honest with you guys and say I am not 100 per cent convinced the writing on the form is by Logan Sama. I'm not sure why, I just have a sneaking suspicion.

The score for the new single, "Summertime", is pretty apt, though: minus infinity. Surely there is not one person who doesn't find that chorus cheesy and annoying.

Also, have a look at the info about Wiley's new album, I See Clear (terrible name, eh?). He's working with Mark Ronson, Arthur Baker (has this guy produced anything worthwhile since "Planet Rock"? Doesn't he just run restaurants now?), Lily Allen and Kate 'I LIKE DRINKING TEA' Nash. I wonder what he will make with Nash. Maybe a song about pie and mash. He could do a remix of "Pies".

Wiley: Who ate all the pies? Who ate all the pies?
Kate Nash: I did! And the mash! I LIKE DRINKING TEA!

One thing's for sure: it can't be any worse than that career ender of a song she did with Kano.

All over your boink

According to music bible the Daily Star, Nastasha and Daniel Beddingfield want to resurrect Craig David's career. "I love Craig, but I really liked his music when he was doing the UK garage thing back in the day.

"I was feeling sad thinking that the sound had gone for good, but I've been hearing it back on the radio again with the bassline scene and I think he should use it again."

"I'd definitely get Dan on board, he's pretty good at that dance thing."

Jesus H. Christ, imagine the Beddingfields and Craig David doing a bassline tune. Instant nail in the coffin if that happens. It could be a girl vs. boy tune. Daniel could do the girl bits.

It's not too unlikely either. I hear T2 and Craig are working together at the moment. Big look 4 dA sCeNe.

When I look at this, I can't help but picture the Lil Wayne and Birdman incident. And who can blame me?

Monday

"You know you're my lady (lady) / You drive me crazy (crazy)"

Above is a live PA of DJ NG's "Tell Me". Look at all the girls in the video down the front dancing and giving gunfingers while their boyfriends are (presumably) at home desperately searching the internet to find where they can download The Movement's new mixtape for free and threatening to violently assault people on the RWD forum. When grime nights were effectively banned in London, a lot of people turned to funky house clubs to go to and now you've got producers like NG making this pretty dark funky house stuff because of that. I've been pretty addicted to this song for the last month. I didn't really get it at first but then someone randomly played it at the last Dirty Canvas and I couldn't get it out of my head.

I heard that Mighty Crown requested a dub of this for when they played in London earlier this month. I also heard Logan goes driving round Essex listening to this every day (but don't quote me on that).

'Cos I'm pretty generous I'm giving away a very special gift - a black and white print of Kano (previewed above) courtesy of Ben Rayner that you can frame and hang above your bed. It's about 14 inches wide, FYI. To win just email me the name of the guy who produced "Buss It Up". Be quick. I'm sending it out tomorrow evening so you get it before Christmas.

Is this grimey enough?

The new Kano video is good. I like it. The song not so much, but the video is well done. No one's going to buy the single though, are they? Let's be realistic.
