The great circle of theft

Check out the difference in Photek's accent between this video above, which was made in St Albans in 1996 and the one below. I like the artwork guy's little wave on the sofa. The whole thing is like a spoof of someone interviewing a drum and bass producer.

This was made in LA last year. He's lost the mockney accent completely. Dropped it like a bag of sand. Off like a dirty shirt. Maybe he needed the fake accent back then or DJ Hype wouldn't speak to him. I guess a similar thing will happen to all these pork pie hat-wearing public school guys in really terrible east London indie bands in 15 years. There is only so long you can keep up the pretense.

For further entertainment, have a look at these guys called Source Direct. They look like the worst people in the world. Nice rims, though.

Also, while I'm here, watch this video. I don't want to spoil the end but two extras in the video inexplicably start fighting. Oops, I think I spoilt it.

where did the deepset hate of dnb come from prancey? ashamed of your junglist past?

also.. how did 96 era photek afford a ferrari? this is before he even released an album and was just dropping singles?

wow photek sounds like SuperHans from Peep Show lol

really wierd about the fight at the end of that video. Real Talk is powerful tho eh? Kels is looking real aged in that video also

think he lost his "mockney" accent through living in the states maybe?? And St Albans is a stones throw from High Barnet Prancey!

i was never really into jungle, to be honest. maybe i was too young.

and the point was how did he end up with the mockney accent in the first place? his name is rupert and he was talking like he had a market stall in queens crescent. he lost the accent when he didn't have to keep up the act around dnb producers all day.

Out to all st.albans crew, heh heh! what used to crack me up about Source Direct is how they'd go on in interviews about how mad and violent their public school by the Abbey was, while the rest of us had to make do with the usual plebby levels of violence you get at school.

As for the cars - there are three options: HP, parents, or royalties from the tweleves. It's a complete mystery to me...

guys a fucking genius. why is a grime blog talking shit about d'nb. you cant compare d'nb and jungle to grime. It was played the world over and still is today, its influence is massive. I't wasnt about little black boys at bus stops talking in a far from rythmic fashion about killing each other. It was and is music.

btw. what is alot more alarming than his accent in L.A. is how fucking bad the music has become.

get off your soapbox already. i never slagged off dnb. what is it with dnb fans and taking offence at anyone who isn't gushingly positive about "their music". there's no need to be so precious. there really isn't. dubstep seems to have adopted this attitude too. that's one of the reasons i find it hard to get along with.

"It wasnt about little black boys at bus stops talking in a far from rythmic fashion about killing each other." - if you are a typical dnb fan, i'm glad i never got into it.

"It was and is music." - *raises lighter in the air and begins slow mournful sway*

That Ferrari is a piece of shit. Source Direct - inarticulate mooks. R Kelly - artistic genius.

REAL TALK.

(In defense of Photek - I was in a indie band in 1997 and had a welsh accent... just seemed like the done thing.)

Nah he's not dropped the mockney he's just added a hideous LA emulsifier, he's talking like a cafe latte - a starbucks one an all. british people in the US often do it, my mate in new york sounds like a complete cunt

you dont know who source direct are ? shit grime blog slagging off legends.nice 1

They are quite funny videos...but source direct were so dark man, how can you not know about them? If you were at all in to jungle they are complete underground legends. Seriously they were like the top boys in jungle (so by definition the world, musically speaking) for two or three years in the mid 90s.

The Ferrari was from the advance from Science (Virgin sub label).

Same way with Source Direct.

Also don't forget a big Photek 12 could sell 5-10K units if not more.
