Life goes on

Jammer came by my office today to drop off a copy of his new album. It's got old and new stuff on there, which is good to see - it means you get all the classics. I asked him about the Hot Chip incident last weekend and he said he didn't know anything about it and was really pissed off that someone would threaten someone else at his party. He was even trying to get the guy's number to call and apologise.



As well as his new album, Jammer also left behind his hoody, which he wants me to give away on here. He's had it since he was 18 but said he didn't want to wear it home because it was too hot, and asked me to do a competition for it. To win it, all you need to do is write a poem (or maybe just some bars) about why you love Jammer and email it to me or write it in the comments section. The best one wins the hoody.

Jammer will be playing Tales of the Jackalope this Saturday. I'm doing a set with him, Trim and Facion G. Dizzee Rascal is playing the main stage too. I've got some cheap tickets (tenner each) to give out if anyone wants them. Just email me your address and I will send them out.



I've got a pile of crap CDs that I have no time to listen to, so I will be giving a few away every few weeks on here. Today I am giving away Nasty Jack's mixtape, a Channel U compilation and a mixtape by Sincere. Just email me which one you want. First come, first serve. Btw, Nasty Jack's mixtape came with a long, drawn out press release with questionable "facts" like he has an IQ of around 150 or something. Weird. The press release gets thrown in with the CD if I can find it.



I was in Nottingham on Saturday. It was different. After I'd finished DJing at The Social, I was gonna go to Detonate to see Oris Jay (hoping to bring back memories of when FWD>> was good) but when I showed up the night was shut down. Three people got stabbed inside or something. The next day I went to an urban music record shop in town and bought Mr Virgo's "Big Bass EP". The guy in the shop had no change so had to give me an old Sidewinder DVD instead. It's that one where Skepta clashed Flirta D in Swindon. Pretty good stuff, but I think I'll just stick to buying the majority of my records off Juno in the future.



As I type, the Kano album is sat on the desk in front of me but I can't bring myself to listen to it.

Yeah, sorry I've been quiet - been in Napa, innit. Not really. But Ruff Sqwad were out there a few weeks ago and decided to make their own episode of Ayia Napa Uncovered. There's footage of them in the hotel, in the swimming pool, in KFC, checking out some girls... Just your usual kind of stuff to do while on holiday, I guess.



Talking of Ruff Sqwad, they played at my last DO IT! party on the weekend just gone and killed it. I really am a massive fan of those guys. I told them to arrive an hour before they were supposed to play expecting them to be late but they actually turned up on time. They didn't mind waiting around and didn't hassle me for drinks tokens all night (like some other people I've booked before) and then went on a did an amazing long set, even though I didn't have much money to give them.

I also went to Jammer's mixtape launch the night before (will have pics for Friday) but only stayed a little while. I heard Jam had 60 people on his guest list so it took ages for people to get in. Then later on when the guy from Hot Chip was DJing, about 10 minutes into his set after he had clanged a few mixes, a guy from Neckle Camp came up to him and threatened to punch him in the face unless he got off the decks. He was later seen running out the door with his record bag. Good times.



This is an outtake from a recent Kano shoot my friend Ben Rayner did for Dazed. I much prefer this one to the one they ran. I got Kano's album in the post earlier this week. It's pretty interesting. Hello. Here is an interview I did with Philadelphia's Plastic Little. The conversation is mainly about pink cocaine, Lindsay Lohan and Spank Rock, so have a look if you think you might like any of that kind of thing.



Afrikan Boy is on the new MIA album, which I know isn't much of a surprise to some people, but I've just heard the song and it's hilarious. Just saying.



I'm still in two minds about where to bring DJ Assault for dinner when he comes over. My plan was to get Assault, Starkey and maybe Ruff Sqwad (if they are up for it) and bring them to Nando's for dinner before the big night (July 21 - buy tickets here). I thought this was a great idea and Sara from Faggatronix told me that Timbaland was pictured in there when he was over, so I was like: well done me etc. But then Daniel from 7 Year Glitch said Nando's is gay and Timbaland only went there because he's friends with Nelly Furtado, who is Portguese. Basically, what I am asking is where should I take DJ Assault for dinner (NO HOMO) when he is over?

Oh yeah, talking of Ruff Sqwad, my friend Jamie saw them all (as well as some random dudes from South London he shot for the Vice Photo Issue last year) hanging out at this dancehall night in Finsbury Park last week. I never even knew there were any good nights around there when I lived just up the road last year. I am gonna go along in the next few weeks I fink. The place is called @ Club and is on Blackstock road.
