My father told me I could be anything but a cop or a fag / So I turned to the street and started copping shit by the bag

Wow. Nice freestyle by Yola Da Great.

New Lethal B video featuring 2 Face. I like it. Cheap, but good.

Ugh. Why?

Tuesday

CELEBRATE THAT

I was at the Roll Deep video shoot today for their single "Celebrate That". It was being filmed at the Old Blue Last and everyone was there (except Wiley, obviously). The song is all about celebrating the fact that their album went silver, so they play a bit of pass the parcel with their silver disc in the vid. Pictured above is Brazen with said disc. I took the picture. My friend Alex Sturrock said I'm the Terry Richardson of grime. Just saying.

Here is some of the video being filmed, if anyone cares...

I'm not so sure about all the wickedy wickedy body popping break dancy flex movements, but hey, Roll Deep videos usually turn out OK.

When I turned up everyone was upstairs in the pub smoking loads of weed and drinking cheap wine. They'd been there since 8.30 AM so everyone was kind of fucked. Breeze and Scratchy seemed coherent enough to speak, so I got them to do some stuff on camera. I spoke to Scratchy about Wiley retiring and he said he's positive Richard will be back MCing very soon. Interesting.

This is the video for JME's "Serious" Remix, for those who haven't seen it.

Monday

FUCK BEING FAMOUS

A sincere thanks to all four people who showed up to my night on Saturday. As these ladies perfectly demonstrate, that's more than enough people necessary to have a great time. Okay, so a few more than that showed up, but whatever. I've got a lot of international people lined up for their first UK appearance, so look out for that.

This is a Russian guy walking it out. Southern hip hop is a lot bigger in the rest of Europe. Unk's got a German radio tour coming up. If I booked him for a show over here, I doubt I'd get more than a handful of people who'd want want to see him.

(If you like the Russian guy's moves, you can also watch him dancing to Chingy here. The guy is INSANE - he makes Britney Spears look (almost) mentally stable.

I've heard Mr Wong is working as a bus driver in Streatham, if anyone gives a shit.

Sunday

I'm back you know

Hello. Sorry I haven't posted recently. I've been busy sorting out my club night (it's next Saturday at Scala - I'll post the flyer on Monday) and listening to the new Dizzee album. The first single is called "I Can Hear The Sirens". I was just going through some old copies of Vice and have got a few ideas for the video. They're pretty great, so I'm not sure I should share them here in case someone steals them, but I'm sure no one would do that, right? Okay, what I was thinking was the video could maybe have a fox hunting theme - like an inner city version of fox hunting. I'm picturing Dizzee dressed up as a fox, running around Bow with some country gents on horses chasing after him. Seeing those guys riding around through some tower blocks would be pretty funny, I think. Anyway, it's just a thought.

The video for "Come 2 Da Roadside" by Roadside Gs has been banned from Channel U. It's a shame because it was probably the only thing worth tuning in for on that station. It went straight into the chart at number 3, then they pulled it after Operation Trident got involved. Apparently some anonymous artists went to Trident and "decoded" a lot of the slang to them - stuff like what "Star 9" means - so Channel U were then made to take it off the air. It's strange how they still play stuff like Baby Cham's "Ghetto Story" which is all about Cham getting a gun. I guess that's double standards for you though.

Here's the video for Matt Shadetek's "Brooklyn Anthem".

I could listen to Mavado all day. He's done a freestyle for me over a Lewi White beat, but I'm not going to go into that right now.

Download this B.O.B. & DJ Smallz mixtape if you think you might like that sort of thing.

Friday

Smoke like a hippie, drink like a pirate

Screen shot of Kano in Def Jam Icon.

Kano is in this new Def Jam computer game (as I've mentioned about five times previoulsy for no particular reason), which is apparently kind of a big deal because he's the first guy from the UK to get into the game. I was invited along to an empty club in central London where I was supposed to ask him all about the game and stuff, but the interview only lasted six minutes before I was politely asked to leave.

Anyway, here is the interview:

Me: So are you signed to Def Jam?
Kano: No, it's just the game I'm associated with really. It's completely two different things: the game and the record label. With the game, they got in contact somehow and it came through to me and...

Alright. Do you still see Jammer or anyone else from the old Nasty Crew days?

I see Jammer not too long ago. I see him at a Vice magazine party - that Baby Cham thing. I see D Double E at a birthday party, like one of my aunts' niece's birthday party and D was there DJing and stuff. I see Ghetto about still, obviously.

So are you going to try and make your new album a bit more grimey?
It's gonna be a mixture. It's gonna have your more slower, melodic stuff and it's gonna have your more grimey, bass driven stuff. I've got loads done, so it's in the finishing stages. I've got Vybz Kartel on there on a track, but mainly I've been working with Mikee Jay. He's produced a lot of my favourite tracks off the last album.

Great. What's the most expensive item of clothing in your wardrobe?
A Dolce & Gabbana jacket that cost well over a grand. I wish I didn't buy it now. It felt right at the time, but it don't no more. I wore it once at the MOBOs and I won, so fuck it, it was worth it.

What are your predictions for fashion in 2007?

I don't know. Street fashion always stays the same - same tracksuits, different colours. Trainers always stay the same. I wear Stan Smiths, but a lot of kids wear Air Forces or Huaraches or Dunks. With me, it's always going to stay plain.

Is there anything you wouldn't wear?
Skinny jeans, like Russell Brand's.

Why not?
'Cos girls wear them.

What do you think of Russell Brand?

I like him; he's funny. But I don't like his clothes or his hair.

If someone offered you a massive clothing deal to promote skinny jeans would you do it?
No, would you?

Yeah of course I would. I heard you got a big modelling deal with Hugo Boss in Japan.
Rah. That's just a rumour, but it seems like it's getting worse every time. I heard I got a deal, but I didn't hear it was in Japan. Someone's added that bit in too.

Kano's press guy:
Last question, please.

Me: Do you regret the trouser shorts in the "Brown Eyes" video?

Nah! I like them.

Would you say they're a good look?

Yeah, of course they're a good look. Well, for holiday - not in England.

Kano's press guy: OK, we need to finish the interview there.

Here's Tinchy Stryder's new video for the song "Breakaway". I also mentioned this a little while back. It's on Channel U now, but I just can't watch that station - it's filled with some of the worst music and most aesthetically displeasing videos ever made. It's like a form of torture.

I know this is a bit Back To The Future if you're a yank, but I only saw it today and it's really funny.
