Thursday

Heard there's heat in the kitchen, so I called the plumbers up / But they didn't know no more than me - as dumb as fuck

Click here if you want to read an interview I did with Trim. He's the best MC in the UK right now, in my humble opinion. If that wasn't enough excitement for one blog post you can also read my new Vice music column here. It has stuff about dancehall and an interview with Collie Buddz. The dancehall documentary I mention can be seen at VBS.TV

This is the flyer for the night I am playing next Monday with Kid Sister. I am thinking it will be fun. Did I mention it was free to get in?

Wednesday

Elbows on the table, but I will say please

It is late so I have to be quick. Above is that collaboration between Lethal Bizzle and Gallows (which might be on Lethal's album or something) performed live at the Dot To Dot festival on Sunday. Sorry for crappy footage - couldn't be arsed to push to the front. You get the idea though. It's a cover of "Staring at the Rudeboys" by The Ruts. It's a pretty shit song, but Bizzle did a really good set beforehand where he did all the bars to "Pow" and all the kids in the crowd moshed and stuff. Good times. Oh yeah, Kano also performed but showed up 40 mins late and got air I heard. People were booing.

A veritable cornucopia of BBK tees

I played at The Social later that night. Jammer, Chronik (forgot to get a pic - FUCK), C Gritz, Lee Brasco, Jamakabi, Slix, Frisco, Dirty Danger, Skepta, JME, DJ Maximum, DJ Magic and DJ Scholar also played. About a third of the crowd had Boy Better Know tees. There must be a lot of grime fans up there in Notts. Who would've thunk it.

DJ Scholar

This is my fave pic from the weekend. I've put one or two more pics up on my photo blog. I saw Scholar outside later on trying to get some girls to come and "hang out" in the hotel Ruff Sqwad were staying at. Not sure how lucky he was. There were quite a few groupies about. They were invading the stage when BBK were on. I saw one girl out by the toilets giving Jamakabi her number in exchange for him letting her get on stage to dance. I saw her later on barging some little teenage boys out of the way to get one of the posters JME was giving out. The lengths some people will go to, eh?

I'm DJing this Thursday at Corsica Studios with Diplo, Radioclit etc. See the flyer over in the sidebar. Then, next Monday I'm playing with Kid Sister and DJ A-Trak at a People Are Germs night at the Old Blue Last. Should be amazing. I recommend you come.

DO IT! on Saturday was great - the best we've done since the first one. Ice Kid, Maveric and Chipmunk (all Eskibeat youngers) came and performed in our room. Loads of other randoms were there too - Statik, Tempa T, Lee Brasco, Slix. I guess it was because Oxide and Neutrino were playing in room 1. Statik was randomly trying to chat up a butch Brigitte Nielsen lookalike for me (I didn't ask him to) but he kept groping her bum and she got pissed off and ran away. Weird moment. If anyone has any pics of the night, can you send me them please? I didn't get any pics. Thanks.

New Wiley video.

Saturday

Hit 'em with the PP 5+2

There is a theme to this blog post. See if you can work it out. It's a tricky one.

Dizzee Rascal on Jools Holland's show the other week. It's not as bad as everyone said it was.

Dizzee doing "Stop Dat" at the Radio 1 Big Weekender thing last weekend.

Some little guy whose name escapes me doing some acappella in 2004, while DJ Karnage skulks in the background.

---

Tonight at DO IT! we have Lee Brasco doing a PA of "Computer Girls", and loads of the Eskibeat MCs (Ice Kid etc.) coming down. Email me to get on the cheap list.

Friday

THIS SATURDAY

I'm doing room 3. Can't be arsed to list which MCs will be coming. If they show, they show. I don't wanna spend all night in the corridor directing them to the venue again. It's in the middle of King's Cross. How can that be so hard to find? There's this thing called a "map", or how about those things you use to see things with called "eyes"? Anyway, Magic has spoken to loads of MCs, so yeah. Oxide and Neutrino will be upstairs, and Wiley is playing in another room too. Should be good if you like that kind of thing. Btw, a guy called Rollo Jackson just emailed me to tell me that a short piece on Wiley he produced and directed will be on Channel 4 tonight at 12.55.

Email me for concessions for Saturday.

Monday

Death hits all of us one day / I wish I never had to hear your spirit run away

I've been listening to "Dean" by Dizzee Rascal over the last few days. It's what is referred to in the music business as a "B-side". It's on the "Sirens" CD single, if you must know. Strangely, it's better than pretty much every other track on the album. It's like one of those dreamy, introspective tracks from Boy in Da Corner. I guess it didn't really fit in with the whole "British hip-hop" theme he was going for with this LP. Shame, really.

*EXPLOSION* Brand spanking stonking 125 per cent worldwide exclusive of the new video by The Streets *EXPLOSION*

That rumour about him going in a jazz funk direction obviously wasn't true.

This picture is part of a new feature on here called "Queenie's Grime Picture of the Week". Those guys above are Slew Dem Crew. You may have heard of them. This is what Queenie had to say about the picture: "I admit that I shat myself a bit when Chronik decided to show off his sword."

Sunday

***BREAKING NEWS***

Chronik is back on road with a new look - NO DREADS!

I just felt like posting that. Not sure why. I'll be back next week with some music type stuff. Piggy promise.

Monday

Speed boat, no rowing needed / Don't listen to the hype, don't believe it

Joker and Buggsy

By the wonders of the internet, radio and, well, technology in general, you can listen to the audio from FWD>> on Friday in the comfort of your own home. Pretty amazing, no? It was broadcast live on Rinse FM and some clever people ripped it and so here it is. Download Joker's set here and the big set near the end with all the MCs (Footsie, Skepta, Fuda Guy etc.) here. That little section I filmed and put up yesterday can be heard in full below. The crowd went absolutely insane when Gift came on. I should really have got some more stuff on camera but it's pretty gay to stand there at the front all night filming.

The bit where you hear the girl talking is when Sarah who runs the night smeared her knickers and came to the front to tell the MCs to stop so the crowd could calm down.

---

If you enjoy a bit of rofling or whatever, go here to watch the episode of Louis Theroux's Weird Weekends where he goes to New Orleans to become a gangster rapper, and hangs out at Master P's house. I'd forgotten how funny it was. You can also watch every episode of Peep Show. What more could you want?

---

Oh yeah, I can't believe I didn't mention this before: I was standing in the corridor on the way into Dirty Canvas on Saturday trying to get phone reception, when an MC from a certain south London grime crew came up to me and shook my hand and said something like, "Hey buddy, do you need a little nose job?" I stood there for about 30 seconds staring at him baffled until I realised what he was talking about. "Nose job"? Wtf? I thought he was implying I had a big nose or something.

Sunday

Berr quick

FWD>> on Friday was really good. So good that I was annoyed with myself for not going in ages, but I'm not really that into dubstep anymore and they don't put on too much grime and when I used to go pretty much every week when they played more grime I got a bit bored so maybe I'm not such a bad person. Anyway, Joker's set last night was doing a lot, saying a lot, praying a lot, being a lot, seeing a lot, etc. (I'm not using the phrase "a lot" any more because I think it's over used. I've just killed it off right there). God's Gift showed up, as you can so clearly see in my really clear video above. (Don't worry, if you close your eyes and dream, maybe you can picture it all). Jammer and Frisco and loads more showed up too I think but I was too drunk and went home before all that for some strange reason.

I'm just back from Dirty Canvas. DJ Magic called me today to fill in and do a set because DJ Cameo was too busy reading urbandictionary.com to show up. Logan got on the mic and had a five minute rant about Cameo being a gaylord or something and said stuff about him going on 1Xtra and reloading a new Lethal B tune six times and claiming it was a "worldwide exclusive" before going on to play loads of shitty bassline house and telling everyone he has nothing to do with grime. That was the most entertaining bit of the night. Magic recorded it all, so I'm gonna get the mp3 and put it up here. Oh yeah, another funny thing from Logan (he was on form tonight): pretty much the second Marcus Nasty walked into the club and towards the DJ booth, Logan dropped a brand new song by Wiley (who has just made a dub for Marcus). It looked like Marcus was going over to ask him to turn it off. I found it funny anyway. Scorcher and Wretch turned up too. I really love how enthusiastic and happy they seem when they are MCing - like they are having the most fun in the world. That's nice to see. I don't think anyone else is like that.

Thursday

Parental advisory without explicit lyrics

Hi there. Has anyone got any pics from my night on Saturday? The one above is all I've seen so far. Please email them to me if you have any. Thanks. There's a slight theme to the rest of today's post. The theme is events, specifically events I am playing at. Let's go.

This is a house party thing with loads and loads of dubstep DJs on Sunday May 20. For info of where it is and stuff, go here. It looks like fun. They're having a barbeque too. I'm playing back to back with Joker - that great new grime producer from Bristol. Click below to listen to Flow Dan, JME and Skepta freestyling on "Gully Brook Lane" which I'm hoping will come out on Terrorhythm sooner rather than later. Not sure I can wait any longer.

Joker is at FWD>> this Friday for JME's new single launch. I think I'm actually gonna go for the first time in about seven months.

This looks like it should be fun. New VICE Records signing Black Lips are also playing. I went to watch them at Cargo on Tuesday night and for some strange reason Skepta was there too. I'll put up a picture of him and the band in the next few days. Anyway, I'll be doing a mainly ghetto tech set at this night, but will play other stuff too. I'm currently sorting out a night in the UK with the king of ghetto tech DJ Assault. So excited about that. I'm also doing another event at the same venue in June with Oxide and Neutrino and Slimzee and loads of other people. I'm gonna bring back O & N.

---

Check out Lethal Bizzle's new single over there in the Prancehall Lite section at the top of the sidebar. As I said before, I add good new stuff I find there every day so keep checking and, hey, you might even find something you like. You never know. Stranger things have happened. While I'm here I might as well comment on the song. Let's go. Erm... not so keen on content, is he? I wonder how long he can go on making exactly the same song.

Tuesday

roflmfao

Hello. DO IT! on Saturday was a good little night. Good stuff, as they say. Badness called me during the day to ask if he could come down and perform, and went on with Jammer and C Gritz. I'm a big fan of Badness - I'll definitely be getting him to do a lot more shows. I got some video footage, which I will put up soon. Statik showed up when about four people were left and brought Pete Doherty with him to help him DJ. Weird. Logan's grime classics set went down well - was so good to hear all those songs again. This is what Logan had to say: "Played out tonight at Scala playing strictly old grime. Was good fun and half the crowd seemed to know the tunes. Mixer was a bit fucked so I couldn't hear the right deck too tuff and the dj before me said he had a nitemare on it too but the system was nice and loud and those old tunes sounded big on that system."

More little reviews here.

This is Ruff Sqwad's "Xtra" video. It's been finished for a while, so I don't know why they haven't publicised it in any way yet.

My new music column (which I scanned in and put up here before) is now up on the Vice site.
