Grime @ The TDK Festival

TDK on Saturday was pretty amazing. Ruff Sqwad, Jammer & Neckle Camp, Skepta, JME, Frisco, and Logan Sama all turned up and played in the Vice room.

I took loads of pictures and videos, so have a look:

Ruff Sqwad played first, but left straight after their set to go outside and fight amongst themselves.

I played next and had a girl in a gold bikini with her beer gut hanging out, and the guy from Spank Rock dancing to my set. (He's the one in the red hoody, not that anyone gives a shit).

Skepta then turned up with a bottle of Moet, which my friend later knocked over onto the floor. At first he was angry...

...but he later laughed it off.

Jammer had a chuckle too.

Neckle Camp performed songs from their album. People danced and stuff.

I then met JME backstage and he said he'd forgotten his camera, so I said I'd take some pictures for him so he could put them on his myspace blog.

He seemed most keen to have his picture taken with girls.

They were happy to oblige, though.

We then went through the whole club getting his picture taken with weird-looking guys...

...and drunk people.

When we'd finished, JME headed back to the Vice room to play on an Xbox.

Thursday

Grime @ The Old Blue Last

Jammer and C Gritz from Neckle Camp played at the Old Blue Last a couple of nights back for the launch of Vice TV. Despite turning up two hours late and not bothering to bring a DJ (meaning my friend Luca had to jump in at the last minute), they were great. Jammer rather generously left behind a copy of "Murkle Man", which I obligingly put in my bag. Thanks Jam - you're too kind!

Here's a little video of them MCing over a new beat produced by Jammer.

Later on, my friend Jack cornered Jammer outside and got him to do a freestyle. I asked Jam for a free Murkle Man T-shirt, but he didn't have any with him. I've been promised one for Saturday at the TDK festival, where you can catch Neckle Camp playing live, and me DJing afterwards.

While Jack was filming, two wastemen came up to us and insisted they could do a better job.

I can't believe I didn't get these guys to do a proper clash with Jammer - that would have been hilarious.

The following night, Wiley, Skepta, and Frisco turned up at the Old Blue Last to do a Boy Better Know showcase for Vice TV. Frisco gave me a copy of his Back 2 Da Lab mixtape, and there's nothing I love more than free stuff, so that made me very happy.

Watch the footage below to see for yourself how good the night was.

Please keep sending me pics and videos and stuff. I'm getting loads of funny pics, but I want everything you've got. I'll be uploading all of the pics I've got so far in the next few days.

Monday

Have a look at my pictures Mr. Prancehall - Vol. 1

God's Gift spotted on DJ Bok Bok's TV screen.

Wow, I've been literally inundated with random snaps over the last few days. Even as I type, my computer is ready to explode with the sheer volume of pictures attached to emails being received. It's a lot right now. It's a lot.

Fire Camp spotted jumping around on stage.

I have to say, these are all great and everything, but I was expecting more 'rabbit in the headlights' type stuff. I want a picture or maybe short film of you chasing someone from Ruff Sqwad down the road after they've just come out of Waitrose. That kind of stuff would be perfect. Old stuff is good too.

Flirta D and some guy from SLK (R.I.P.) spotted by James Benenson in a North London bar.

Before I go I thought I'd mention that I heard Trim is in prison in Ayia Napa. Don't tell anyone I told you.

Sunday

Dear Prancehall

I get quite a few letters every week (thank you). Usually, they are pretty random, so it's always a bit of a surprise / nuisance to get a normal one.

The letter below comes from a disgruntled student in Manchester. If you have any other questions or queries regarding music / relationship problems / cooking tips, feel free to send them through and I may or may not answer.

Hi there, alright straight to the point. Why isnt there any grime nights up
in manchester?! I come from the town of dodgy facelifts(croydon) so
obviously i can shoot down anywhere in london to go and see necklin' grime.
But since moving here for uni last september, there been nothing except for
a set plasticman did few months back which cost £17 to get in ( i aint paying
that, im a student)
I talk to people up here who are into hiphop, rap and reggae etc, and they
aint even heard of grime, they think im talking about dirt or something.

Anyway if you of like any upcoming dates and that, it be good to hear them,
im fed up of wigan pier sodding happy hardcore all the time.

And keep up the good work, your blog ting is great!

ETA needs you now

If anybody out there knows of anything going on up there in the hills up north, post the info in the comments section or email me or something.

Also, if you have any pictures of you with your fave grime MC/DJ , email them to me and I'll post them here. I want everything you've got, no matter how old. If you've got none, then you need to go out and get some. For example, if you see Wiley outside the KFC in Bethnal Green, I want you to chase after him and take a picture and then send it to me. Snaps of virtually unknown grime artists welcome too. Get sending right away.

Tuesday

(I haven't heard any memorable / relevant lyrics recently)

Sorry I've been quiet kids, I've been learning the Dutty Whine, which is not as easy to do as you'd think.

I've heard that they're going to have a blogger character in the next series of Dubplate Drama, but nobody has asked me if I wanted to play the part, so obviously I'm quite upset about that.

I'm DJing at the TDK Cross Central Festival on Saturday 26th August. I'm not on the flyer because I only got added to the line-up last week, but I'm on after Ruff Sqwad and will be playing a Dancehall / Booty Bass / US Hip Hop / Grime set, so don't miss it.

Check back soon for updates on Faction G's mixtape, Statik's stag party ideas for Pete Doherty's wedding, and loads of other life-changing stuff.

True story, blud, no tales

I bumped into Jammer and Tempa T today. Jammer gave me his Chamillionaire remix for my mixtape. He told me he's recording his album in outer space, although I may have just made that up.

I heard Skepta and Frisco are in prison in Ayia Napa for getting into a fight with some locals on the island.

Riko's birthday bash was great. Tempa T's vocal of "Battle Riddim" and Baby Cham's freestyle over a Statik beat went down really well.

SPOTTED: Ghetto at Tottenham Court Road tube station last Friday.

You can now read this blog at Prancehall.com. I'm going to build a whole great new wesbite soon, with the blog just making up a little section, like the limb of an octopus, with many other limbs that also do stuff. Look out for that.
